The cold months are behind us, and spring is rapidly approaching. Have you made your plans to visit Grand Isle, LA?

While you may have to endure a bit of cold still, it’s never too early to start thinking about your next trip to Grand Isle.

As the warm weather begins to arrive in March and April, the annual Grand Isle events start to commence. These family-friendly events bring folks in from all over, and they’re a great addition to your itinerary, complementing your beach fun and Grand Isle fishing.

Here are a few event highlights.

The Grand Isle Migratory Bird Celebration

The prestigious Grand Isle Migratory Bird Celebration will take place on the weekend of April 12 through April 14.

After a stretch of flying over the Gulf of Mexico, migrating birds take a much-needed “pit stop” at Grand Isle.

Bird lovers and nature enthusiasts flock to the island during this event. Last year, 168 bird species were accounted for during that three-day stretch. Yes, 168!

Daily bird watching tours are led by experts, so you can learn about the surroundings and know where to go to get in the thick of the action. There are also kayak and boat tours for added variety.

The Grand Isle Blessing of the Fleet

If you venture out to Grand Isle on the weekend of April 12-14, you’ll also have the option to attend the annual Blessing of the Fleet Festival.

This event, held at the Tarpon Rodeo Pavilion here in Grand Isle, includes many activities for the family, including fair rides, live music, carnival games, and food and drink booths. There will also be arts and crafts.

The blessing of the fleet, of course, is the main attraction. This is a salute to the maritime tradition of Grand Isle. It’s a ceremony to bless the boats and fisherman before they embark upon their shrimp season.

April 12-14 will certainly be an action-packed time at Grand Isle! You won’t want to miss it.

Spring time fishing

Fishing is actually great at all times of the year at Grand Isle! Over 280 species of fish await in the waters around the area.

However, if you yearn for the warmth of the peak months here, you can go ahead and get started with some spring fishing.

Go fishing alone, get some insider tips from the locals, or hire one of the many fishing charters to take you on a guided fishing trip if you’re just starting out or want to relax and have an expert do the “hard work.”

For the competitive sportsmen (and women) out there, the Elite Redfish Rodeo will take place on March 21-23 on the Bridge Side Marina.
